2000 A6 2.7T Quattro transmission
I bought it new. Currently 82,000 miles. In 2006 I asked the dealer to service the transmission. I was told that unless it was leaking not to touch the transmission, that it used synthetic lubricant and was intended not to be serviced for the life of the car. Is this wrong? What am I looking like cost wise if the tranny fails?

Dealer is correct. If you never change the fluid, it will last the life of the transmission....just like engine oil.
If you want to extend the life of either, change the oil and filter. You are due on the trans.

4Driver4: I wasn't told life of the transmission; I was told life of the car. Sarcasm is dripping off your reply and unfortunately confirms my concern. Is servicing the tranny so difficult? The dealer that told me to leave the tranny alone told me to replace the timing belt/water pump at 6 year intervals (should have included the thermostat). Can I trust tranny service to an independent mechanic? Or Aamco?
