Default 2000 A6 4.2: B2S1 O2 sensor removal

I am stuck.
I can't figure out a way to remove the B2 S1 (driver side, upstream) O2 sensor. Space is SO tight, worse than anything I have seen before (2.7T for example).
Need tips on how to get it out (have code).
Car on jacks.

ANY suggestions?

The Bentley manual says to remove the exhaust pipe, then remove the sensor from the pipe.

I have not done that particular sensor, but IIRC there have been multiple discussion of removing difficult 02 sensors from the top with a series of taped-together extensions and swivel joints.

STFA more.

That's just as bad (assuming the exhaust/downpipe bolts are rusted solid and hard to access).

I don't. But nothing to read in your post.
Something still better than nothing.

The driver's side sensor is very easy compared to the pass side. Just remove the coolant tank and the sensor is straight down.

Having one of these makes it easy:

The pass side sensor I have tried twice to remove and haven't been able to get it yet. Will be giving it another go next month when I do the oil change.

Some thing can be worse than something. If you went for the exhaust drop first, that's worse than nothing.

Those wrenches certainly make it easier to get at the O2 sensors but can be had for much cheaper than ECS. I think I paid like $12 for mine from Advance Auto. For something I may use once a year, that's more than adequate.

Just checked from above: driver side indeed easy from top (just need to dig out the above tool. For those that need to save money so they can buy performance parts for their Audis: I have been using this one for several years at 1/4 of the ECS price:
