Default cannot stop power steering squeel

2001 a6 quattro 2.8. I'm on the 3rd pump, and cannot get this thing to shut up. I've been through all the forums and done just about everything I've read. There are no air bubbles in the reservoir. I've replaced both hoses between the reservoir and the pump and all the clamps are new and tight. It's always making the unmistakable steering pump sound like its low on fluid. get's louder with rpm's. The steering is fine during normal driving, but is tight when parking at low rpm's. There's new fluid and it's been bled many times. Once with the reservoir extended and zip tied to the top of the open hood for extra gravity. I'm on my second new meyle pump and the original audi pump had the same issue. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

If the sound is more of a growl than squeal I would suggest you check the filter in the bottom of the reservoir. Not sure it can be replaced without replacing the reservoir, but maybe it can be cleaned. Mine was dirty and it starved the pump of fluid making it growl.

Thanks for the reply. I blew mine out with an air compressor, and it looked clean afterwards. Think it’s flowing alright there. Maybe I’ll grab a new rez just in case

In my case you could not tell it was starving for fluid except for the growl. Looked okay in the reservoir when it was running. Not saying it is the cause of your problem. But I was having problems and told my tech about the reservoir filter and he did not think it was my problem. He replaced a hose which did not fix it. Then the starving caused my old tired pump to die. Replaced pump. The problem continued. He eventually replaced the reservoir and all was good. So even a good tech did not see the filter causing it. But it was.
