Default Stuck in park. Clicking. Limp mode. HELP. A6-01

Hi all

My 2001 A6Q-auto was stuck in park this morning.

I heard a clicking sound from the shifter and little light next to shifter was on and blinked. Eventually got to Drive "in limp mode!" and on the dashboard "PND234" light was all red.

And check engine light came on

This happened 3 times, then the next time no problem, no 'limp mode', except 'check engine' light stayed on.

Any thoughts PLEASE.....

Best,
Ted

Sounds like the multi-function switch (F125) is going or gone. Codes will reveal the truth, but the code is most likely in the TCU so a generic OBDII scanner will not be able to read them. Audi specific scanner or VAG-COM will be necessary.

Code is P0600.
Now check engine light is off.

Any chance it could be "brake light switch"

Did it rain recently or did you wash the car? Check for wet carpet on the passenger side.

P0600? Sounds serious...I guess. Makes me wonder what it means.

What about codes in the TCU? Nothing?

From Bentley:
16984 P0600 Serial Comm. Link (Data Bus) Message Missing.

Sounds like a short / malfunctioning unit on the communications bus. Didn't check the manual yet but, the OP can try resetting by removing battery.

I think this code is a result of the ECU not being able to talk to the TCU. Basically an almost total TCU failure which is leading me to believe it is wet or worse. Either way you are right that it sounds serious.

May be worth a try, but I doubt it will work. At this point he has nothing to lose.
