The CTS will monitor the coolant temp .. it richens the mixture when the car is cold and leans it out as the senses the coolant warm up . depending how it goes bad it can dump fuel in constantly thinking the car is cold. therefore bad fuel consumption and cooked cats.
I don't have time to read all the posts, but here's my experience. A bad coolant sensor caused no start when the engine was warm. Put out black smoke but no start. Waited about 30 min and all was fine. Once it was warm, the mileage didn't seem to be much different. Happened on a cross country trip, so I lived with it 'till I got home. Easy fix.
