A6 2003 2.7T weird noise form back of engine
Hello everyone,
I did all kinds of work on my a6 that has 120k km last week. under the hood, I did the timing belt kit/water pump, changed the secondary electric water pump (located under the intake....what a charm!!!), the head cover gaskets ( again, what a pin in the ***) and the plugs. As it's our third car, i drove it only for about 100km since the repairs and everything seemed ok. I only got the random misfires and bank 1&2 system to lean do to the intake bolts got loose when engine got hot. I did not change the gaskets for now but I tightened the bolts and everything disappeared.
So here is the problem, I turned the car on tonight and there is a crazy noise coming from the back of the engine, where the secondary air pump is located ( I think). While engine on, I unplugged the connector ( the one u can see in the video) but no difference.
any ideas?

Have you checked all your vacuum connections? Since the noise varies with the engine RPMs it is likely not the secondary air injector pump, but more likely something vacuum oriented.

ok.... so I woke up this morning and went outside to get the car in the garage....surprise surprise, the noise disappeared. Only difference between today and yesterday is that today we have a +13 Celsius and yesterday night was about 8-9 Cecilius and that the secondary air pump was disconnected.
thanks

On your next time around I would just do the EGR delete and get rid of the secondary air pump and the EGR/ Combi valves ( unless you're in a state that requires certain emissions). Then just have it coded out of the ECM. Only automatics have it. All it does is blow hot air directly into the cats to heat them up faster.

Pull the SAIP, clean everything, and put a couple drops of oil down the motor shaft. Make sure the tubes aren't clogged, same with the combi valves. Don't break the corrugated tube, it's fragile and expensive. My SAIP whined like a jet engine until I cleaned it up.
