Default A6 2003 3.0L Oil Pressure Warning Light Issue

The oil pressure light goes off all the time, took it in, the car is NOT loosing pressure at all.

Oil levels are good. New Oil pressure sensor.

I have a video that you can see what I am talking about please see here.

I need help figuring out how to make this stop.

In the Milwaukee WI area, just in case.

Was the oil pressure tested by an Audi service center??

A couple things I'm going to mention here is that I personally had a similar issue with good oil pressure I tested only to find that the check valve in the Wix oil filter did not look right, replaced it with a Mann filter "like I always used" with no problems for almost a year now.
Prospeeder another member here who is an auto tech had mentioned bad seals in the pick-up tubes or supply tubes to the upper engine (I'm not sure),
there have been a few threads about this issue, try searching the forums too.

JCMAN - Thanks for the reply.

Yes the oil pressure was tested and it was good on multiple occasions.

I do use Mann filters on both this A6 and my AR.

I will search for these other threads you speak on I hope something gives on this issue, as it is driving my daughter crazy, and I didn't understand why until I drove the car 20 m miles and gosh that sound is annoying as heck!

Default Did you check/replace oil level thermal sensor G266?

There are two sensors that will trip that dripping oil can…the oil level thermal sensor is on the bottom of the engine oil pan….if you replace it use ONLY a Hella part. There are others that generally don't work.

I gather the oil pressure sensor you replaced was on the oil filter housing?

I thought a red flashing oil can is lack of oil pressure from the sensor/sending unit in the filter housing and a orange can is low oil level from the pan sensor that also monitors oil temp.

Red=Warning
Orange=Caution
Yellow=Achtung or Attention

Correct, the one I replaced was the one on the Oil Filter housing. I will get this Hella sensor and throw it in see what happens. I hope it is something I can find in a NAPA here. I will be back with results!

Thanks for the reply.

Default Before you throw in a new one, try disconnecting the one you have.

You have to drain the oil to replace the sensor…PITA. Don't just throw a part at it.

I forget whether that turns on the light or turns it off, but if it doesn't turn it off, try shorting the terminals…that should turn the light off. The idea is to test the sensor wiring. If disconnecting the sensor or shorting the sensor terminals doesn't turn off the light you have an instrument cluster or wiring problem.

Check the fuse box as well, could be a bad contact. Then check the wiring to the sensor. Here's another discussion on that sensor:

That being said, bad thermal oil level sensor is not unusual. Your choice.

The part that you are suggesting he should replace has nothing to do with a flashing red oil can "low pressure warning", he might consider replacing the oil pressure sending unit with a different one first or check the connector and wiring.

OK So I will try the things mention here. I also wanted to ask if cleaning or changing out the oil pick up tube would be wise? I have been doing some research and thats what most folks suggest.

Also I didn't mention this but my kids car has 135k on it.
Other then this the car is a tank and drives great!

What are your thought on this operation?
