Default A6 Crankshaft Position sensor

Hey guys, I believe that my crankshaft position sensor is faulty as indicated by the error codes when I run diags, also have the whole intermittent issue with the car turning over but not starting occasionally which definitely indicates that the sensor is the issue.

I have seen a few posts regarding this sensor location but have found nothing for a 2000 model A6 C5 2.7T, does anyone have any pics or info on where to locate the sensor on my vehicle?

Apologies if the answer is somewhere on the forum, I haven't been able to find anything..

Thanks a lot
Cheers

On my '01 2.8 the "engine speed sensor" is located just in front of the drivers side front axle where it goes into the transmission. You need to pull the left front tire to get at it. It is one of the few items on this car that is not a huge hassle to get to. The connector is under the expansion tank on the firewall and is the big gray one.

Good Luck!
Steve

also....When you order the part, you need to make certain you are getting the correct one for your transmission.

Thanks for the info steveinky, I will check and see if its in the same location as yours. Its slightly confusing because a lot of posts say "check left hand side under the wheel etc..." but mine is a right hand drive so things are not identical as left hand versions.

Ill check under the drivers side as you suggested, thanks again!

Thanks for the link SloopJohnB, however I did see many places that sell them cheaper then that site, the part was not really the issue but more where to actually find the sensor location on a 2.7T auto.

IS the OP referring to the CRANK POSITION SENSOR (CPS) or the VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS) ??

His original post said CPS and all the responses but one are talking about the VSS, it seems...

I didn't mean to tout ECS; the blurb did state where the sensor was found.
