ALTERNATOR PULLEY
So I need to replace the Alternator on my 2000 Audi A6 2.8L. I went to Autozone and it going to cost about $180 ish, but it doesn't come with a Pulley. Is this going to be an issue?

why do you say that? I know on my bmw they carried new Bosch units cheaper then the dealer.
PO you can most likely change your pulley although to be honest ive never looked at it. Most pulleys have a few bolts and they pop right off.

I don't need to search. I've had great experiences with name brand products. Maybe other people are getting generic products but if you get the same brand for less what's the issue?

<shrugs> Up to you. Go on your experience (which may or may not be relevant) or search the archives to find out what others have experienced with Autozone alternators.
Seems silly to have a great resource like this forum and not use it, but the choice is yours.

Dunno about Autozone reliability...but get one with a lifetime warranty, either sears or some where you can.
Most alternator pulleys are held on with one nut...most books note a special tool to hold the shaft while you take off the nut but I've pulled them off with an air wrench...just hold the pulley with your hand (in a leather or mechanic's glove) and git'er done. Put it on the new alternator the same way.
YMMV.

Name brand what? Just cuz it says Bosch doesn't mean it's the same quality/reliability as the OEM alternator. Plus if it's rebuilt, that's a whole 'nother deal.
And then there's the issue of aftermarket specifications or Chinese production or actual counterfeit items.
Many parts are shipped in from overseas sources that may or may not be as good as OEM components.

Thanks for all your inputs guys
I haven't checked the prices for the other name brands.
How much price difference am I dealing with? Money has been tight especially this Christmas month. This couldn't of came at the worst time eh'? I think I'll just start the project after the holidays are done. Luckily I have my motorcycle as a spare ride, I just got to deal with the cold...I just still can't believe you have to take so much apart to get to the Alternator =(
