Default Audi A6 2.7T engine problem! Found code P3081. Help!

y 2004 Audi A6 2.7T car won't start sometimes. After driving all in town for awhile then shut it off then start again after short time period it won't start. It's trying to start but it's not and we hold the gas sometimes while starting or keep pressing the gas and still won't start. And when it finally starts car stinks like gas. One of the guy was looking the code and found P3081 anyone know that code and has this problem. Hope it's an easy inexpensive fix. Pls help. I wanted this fix. Thinking of selling it after maybe. Anyone encounter this let me know how. Thanks!

If you have to ask a question like that, I recommend that you pay someone competent to do the job.

This is from one of the vendors here. Audi Timing Belt - Audi Timing Belt Kit - 6 Cylinder

Others may have different pricing/parts make. Parts + labor = "how much would it cost".

"..do I have to do it..." - not sure how much you'll recover and @138k, if not done, it should be.

Well, after all of the other advice, your problem is likely the ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensor. Easy to change. Takes about 15 minutes. Should be link here showing how. No special tools needed. Part available at NAPA. Did mine last week. Same symptoms. Even the dealer may not cost too much. Common problem......Timing belt...Way beyond easy. I did mine, but it was a major job and doing it wrong results in disaster. Don't try. But it has nothing to do with your starting problem.

Kinda hard. I don't know if I can do it. I have to have a guy do it for me so going to a car repair for a test to see if what comes up and then repair. Hopefully it's an easy fix. I'm selling my car so I don't think I'll do timing belt what u think? Should I have it done? If it's cost too much then prob not. Thanks guys!
