Default Best way to test 2.8 engine and trans mounts.

What is the best way to test the condition of the 2.8 auto tip trans mounts, and engine mounts. I'm a little leary of trying to pry on them to search for play. My research has turned up very little.

With my foot on the brake, while I cycle through the gears, watching through the front windshield, the engine has about an inch or so of movement. Maybe a little bit more. This is without any type of acceleration. I imagine under a load it would be considerably more.
