Default car overheats when i shut it down | 2.7 t 2001

Hi to all,

i have a trange problem, i would like to hear your thoughts about it as i searched and never saw an actual solution to that prob..

when i get home and i shot the engine off, the water system gets alot of pressure (thats never happen when the engine is on) and coolant is leaking from the valve on the coolant plastic filling tank.

if i start the car 3-5 minuts after i shut it down the temp gauge will show it overheats! and then it comes back to normal but there is coolant loose from the valve on the coolant tank..

what can be the reason?

What is probably happening is the the leak you have is allowing the pressure in the system to escape. When the pressure escapes the boiling point of the system lowers and as a result the coolant will want to "boil over".

Secondly you afterrun coolant pump is not doing its job. It should have kicked in circulating the flud and kicking on the fans till the temp lowers.

Also, the cap itself could have gone bad and is not keeping the system pressurized.

What he says, and I would do the following just because it's a good investment for your turbos.
Lower temp thermo-switch for after-run system
