Dash lights

Dash lights
I find the dash really difficult to read in day time, and it's a problem because the speedo's larger digits are all just fine if you're in Europe, but not here in Australia where they don't match with our most common speed limits.
Has anyone rewired the dash lights to come on with the ignition instead of with the lights?
I don't think it would be difficult in principle, but is there anything lurking in the dash light circuitry to make this difficult?

I never did like the automatic dash light turn on (or at least the instrument cluster) on my 87 900T saab. It just burned out the lights faster. The audi has LED lights…you don't want to burn THEM out even though they last a long time.
If you want the dash lights on just turn on the headlight switch one notch.
