Default Rear axle seal question

I have been getting a vibration from the right rear side of my 2001 a6 2.8 quattro. It has 85k on it.. I looked at it and the inner boot appears to have grease around it. The local mechanic said the axle seal looks to be leaking and recomended I take it to the dealer. Any clue what a dealer would charge me or how complex is this job if I attempt it myself... Any thoughts here?

axle seal or CV boot?

one means you are leaking tranny oil from the casing; the other means the boot finally cracked. Latter is $250 ish all in. Former, dunno. more i would guess.

I've got a differential and a pair of rear axles for you if you want. Let me know what parts you need.
