Does 2.8L Driveshaft/axle fits in 4.2L A6?
Hey guys,
I spent 4 days trying to change the CV boot and I totally gave up, since I cannot get the axle pop out of the CV joint (I did this twice on the A4 before, works flawlessly, so I had experience with it) I tried the bolt twist in method which I fxxked up the bolt and the threads, then I even took out the entire axle, and use the hammering method, that thing is STUCK on it ROCK SOLID!
Anyway, I just purchased a reman axle from NAPA, but on their website, they only use 2.8L engine type (4.2L does not exist)
I have a 2000 A6 4.2L Quattro, and I picked the 2000 A6 2.8L Quattro axle, I just wnat to double check if they do fit or not!
Thanks alot guys.
Gilbert

Re: Much higher torque.
I already ordered.
So you saying the 4.2L axle is different from the 2.8L axle because the 4.2L axle is designed to support much higher torque?
If this is the case, I have to call Napa to cancel the order. Thanks.

Re: Much higher torque.
I just called raxles.com, and they said the axles are allthe same
just the mounting is different for 2000 4.2L but all 2002+ A6 uses the same one afterward.
And they charge $200 for one (reman) so I will check for Napa again for 2002+ and see.

Don't know of a difference, just assuming.
As to your other note - keep in mind that many remans are simply old parts with new grease. I've also had under-sized bearings shipped. Raxles, ont he other hand, sells rebuilts with NEW bearings for very reasonable prices.
