I found one in a junk yard, but it needed some JB-Weld repair. (and is now well destroyed.)

They seem to be rare as hens teeth.

(No, the one from my parts car is not for sale.)

Try this link Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market
Hint:Search "Backing Plate Front"
Ohio requires front plates and Michigan don't, I don't know about the others.

Car-Part.com shows 1 for the whole country, 1998-2004.

My guess is most never get entered into the system so it is catch as catch can if you go to a pick-a-part place.

P.S.

"Backing Plate" is probably the brake rotor backing plate.

All depends how well you want it to fit the front bumper.

You also need to know where the screw anchors are in the bumper. (Factory plate bracket makes for a good template)

Backing Plate might not be the part, good point.

I was a an import wrecking yard last fall Intercity Auto Wrecking in Bedford Ohio, I saw at least 25 C5 A6 cars with front plates mounts, his best bet is to call yards like this

Looks like a whole lot of slots in that frame, almost universal.

Next time grab them, because they are too small a part for the yard to deal with.
If you call , you won't get a call back, and if they do they will be $50+

Now, just how do you intend to find the right spot with the screw anchor that is in the bumper?
