ignition key won't release?

ignition key won't release?
The ignition key is stuck in the ignition on a 2K4.2A6. Turns on, starts the car, stops the engine, but won't turn the last ⅛ of a turn to release the key.
Wheel turns, yada yada yada, up/down, in/out, but won't release the key.
Any ideas?

Got it after ½ hour of study…wife ran car up to 2X4 block on floor and put it in park but didn't let it back off before putting in park…apparently wasn't fully in park (or I'm getting a bad contact on the switch indicating the car is in park..have to pay attention for awhile). So I started car, moved it into drive, back up, drive forward, and put into park without loading it, key came right out.

Hey Sloop I came across a check procedure that fits you problem to a tee, you might need to adjust the shift lock cable if it happens again.

Yes, that's the check procedure I used. After it came out I went back and went through the procedure and couldn't get it to mess up again so I guess it's 'watchful waiting' for awhile.
