After my <a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/661880.phtml">Suction Pump Replacement</a> and my <a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/663021.phtml">Brittle Broken Hose</a>, I thought I had solved all of my problems. Sure enough...I was wrong! I kept pulling this code below:

16496 - Intake Air Temp. Sensor (G42): Signal too Low
P0112 - 35-00 - -

Didn't matter what I did it always came back within three seconds of clearing it. So I knew something was up. I followed some steps out of my Repair manual. I read the value of the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) and it was at a solid 143 degrees Celsius.

approx. 143 ° C
Short circuit to Ground (GND)

approx. -40 ° C
Open circuit or short circuit to B+

So I pulled the IAT out and the value did NOT change. I unplugged the sensor and the value did NOT change. I cleaned the connector and made sure the wires were in good condition, plugged it back in and the value did NOT change. I figured I would need a new sensor. Got online to <a href="www.worldimpex.com">World Impex</a> and ordered a new sensor. It was here in a timely matter considering it was shipped from NJ to UT. I have ordered from World Impex before in the past they are great! I will continue to get OEM parts from them I got the new sensor and was eager to install it. Took less than 15 minutes with all the tools out and clean up. Pics of the install below...

Got my trusty Husky torx tool out.

Started to remove the bolt.

Unplugged the connector.

New sensor installed.

Plugged the connector back into the new sensor.

Now this is where it gets interesting. AFTER I installed the new sensor and plugged in my laptop. I was <b>STILL</b> getting the same error! So after some careful thought about how this problem could still be here, I came to this conclusion: I was in a real hurry installing the suction pump because it was starting to rain and my garage was currently occupied. That's how I broke the <a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/663021.phtml">brittle hose</a>. It's alright, I won't work on my car that fast ever again. I always set aside a good lot of time now . Anyways, long story short I had switched the plugs. The blue plug was suppose to be to the left and the gray plug was suppose to be on the sensor. The plugs <b>SHOULD</b> be plugged in like the picture below:

Nonetheless I had a replaced a sensor that probably didn't need replacement.
All in all one brand new sensor and one "stupid" moment.

That's the kind of thing that I may not have figured out and then felt silly about when the mechanic figured it out for me.

The little successes feel just as good as the big ones, though, so congrats!

Would have resorted to duct tape over the engine light LOL!

you ordered a new sensor when the fault continued even after you had disconnected the plug from the original sensor. Am I missing something?

It was a fairly cheap part. Didn't really matter. I didn't want to run the diagnostics and then find out I needed a sensor anyways. Just wanted to get the part to me a day ahead Who knows...the sensor could have really gone bad and I switched the plugs after. Like I said before, all in all in works now and I have a new sensor.

Where is the air intake temperature sensor located on a 2001 Audi S8?

If you have 4.2 engine, most likely it's the same as mine and the intake temp sensor is integrated into Mass Air Flow sensor. In other words, replace MAF if IAT is bad.

thanks, am trying to add a performance powder chip thu the IAT sensor, is this possible?
