Knocking in front wheel well... HELP!
I have a 2003 Audi A6, 2.7T with 62,000 miles on it...
Recently I've been noticing a knocking coming from the wheel well right under the drivers side. It's definately coming from the wheel well area and at first it was intermittent but now it's becoming more and more frequent.
It doesn't happen with every wheel rotation, and doesn't always happen when I hit a bump, sometimes it will sometimes it won't. The knocking happens both when I drive straight, and when I turn...
The car drives fine; no shaking, no pulling, but the noise is getting annoying, and I'd rather find out where it's coming from before it becomes an expensive fix.
I've thrown my car on a lift, and didn't see any type of visible damage to the area.
I've searched threads on here about the noise, and found some stuff, but it seems that in most of the cases I've read, there was another factor.
Does anyone have any idea of where the noise may be coming from and what the fix could be?

If the CV boots are intact, I'd rule out a CV joint, which would not be intermittent anyway...
... You need to jack that tire off the ground, turn the wheel from side to side, grab a hold of the wheel at 12 and 6 and shake, grab it at 3 and 9 and shake, take the wheel off and grab the control arms and try and shake them, use a stethescope as the steering wheel is turned from side to side, etc.

When you slowly back up and then go into drive and then back into reverse, do you hear a little noise?
