Part Out or Melt Down?
Hey so our A6 has finally succumbed to transmission problems and the car is not worth fixing.
The reason being that we could find another running 2.8L Q for less than the cost to fix the transmission.
The debate in the house is "do we send the car to the local PicknPull and get next to nothing or attempt to part it out?"
I'd like some advise or recommendations.
The car has a lot of good parts on it and I'm temped to pull a Jeremy Clarkson and turn the seats into a living room.

If you plan on getting the same kind of model, then I'd strip out as much as possible and send the empty carcass to the junk yard. You know what things broke on the old one, they may break on the new one too, take them out and keep them. One of the main reasons I sold my old 5000 was because little things are now obsolete and Audi doesn't build them any more, small ones like door moldings, but also big ones like idle control valves. if you have room, keep the wheels, glass, headlights, tail lights, everything you can remove

If you are planning on buying another A6 of the same vintage and motor, by all means salvage what you can. It doesn't take much in the way of recycling good used parts to have saved yourself more than what a few new parts would cost.
It's thinking like this that has led to me owning 5 C5 A6 vehicles.

If you do not want to keep it as a parts source then consider offering it to your indy shop. They may want it and make a deal that you can pull anything off it that is still there. Kind of a first to pull it gets it. But they must store it.
