I have a 2000 A6 4.2 with the ZF transmission that has just gone out on me. Can anyone recommend a place to buy a remaned one that has a decent warranty. I put a used trans in a couple of years ago, and that obviously didn't work out so well. I have found a few places that offer 5 year, 100,000 warranty for around $3000.

Does anyone know of anything cheaper, or at least someone reputable?

As always, I appreciate all the help and knowledge I get out of this forum!

RockAuto has a link to a (supposedly) reliable rebuilder.

ZF North America Service is in Illinois. They may sell referbs or recommend a place.

Yeah, many of the rebuilds are rubbish. There is a VAG trans specialist in KC MO, IIRC.

I would favor a ZF authorized shop over a non-authorized VAG shop.

$3K is a helluva price for a 5/100K guarantee. If they're a ZF-certified rebuilder you probably won't do better all around.
Make sure you get a new/rebuilt TC as well.
