Default requesting diagram of engine cooling system(radiator hoses).

hi everyone, i am a newly registered member and i have a question about my wife's audi a6. her engine coolant is leaking from the rear center of the engine and her fuel/emission hose is disconnected. i jacked up the car to see where it belonged, but there is to many parts obstructing my view. can anyone provide a diagram of the engine cooling system? it would be very appreciated!

Default Howdy.

What engine do you have? 2.7 with a leak like that is usually the aux coolant pump.

Default Re: Howdy.

i'm not 100% on the liters of the engine, but i do know that the pannel on the motor reads "v5". so, where in the engine bay can i find that aux coolant pump? is it by chance located next to the firewall? does the fuel/emissions hose connect to the pump? thank you for your help. great forum so far!

Default If so....

Here's a DYI description, about $900 at a dealer...replace the hoses while you're there...

her car doesn't have that engine, but maybe the hose connections are the same.

Default I suspect it is a 2.8 as well. As for the leak - I guess the only way is....

to get a good look down the back of the engine. There are just a few hoses - two for the heater and a hose to the expansion bottle as well as the bleed tube from the expansion bottle.

Take a good look at the underside ofn the expansion bottle as they are prone to failure.

first, i just want to say thanks for replying. i replaced the expansion tank a few months ago and it works great. there is a tube that is connected to the bottom of the expansion tank and it reads "fuel/emission", it's not connected to any thing else. i filled up the expansion tank with water and ran the car on idle to see where the water was leaking from and it leaks from the back of the motor nearest to the firewall. there was also a few drops of water comming out of the exhaust.

thanks a lot for the diagram. it looks a little different from the platform my wife has, but i think this will help me better understand the hose routes on an audi. thanks again.

Default Re: So she has the 2.8....no turbos?

i believe so, i'm pretty sure it's the 2.8 v6. right now, it's at a shop that i don't trust. i wanted to try and fix it myself, but the wife seems to be in a hurry to get it fixed. i just don't want to get ripped off at some whole in the wall type shop. i'm hoping i can gain enough knowledge from this forum to be able to tackle this task on my own. my honda is so easy to fix, but these audi cars have so many things going on under the hood.

Default I suspect the confusion is that the 2.7t has two pumps. One for air and one for coolant....

The one for coolant is often called the auxiliary pump - it's purpose is to add oxygen to the exhaust gases on cold start to speed the heatup of the catalytic converters. The coolant pump is usually called the after-run pump as it's purpose is to provide circulation of the coolant to the turbo's to reduce damage caused by heat buildup after shutdown when the engine is hot.
