Default Should I Run? Used 01 Allroad with 110K for $1500

So my neighbor has offered me a 2001 Audi Allroad with 110K for $1500 roughly.

Needs the axle replaced, maybe an air strut, a battery and has a cel on for a o2 sensor he thinks, but can't rememebr

I know there is an issue with the tourqe converters, oil leaks, some electrical issues and so forth... Turbos on some models

I need a car to run around town and so forth..Replacing a ford explorer with a bad set of timing chains.

DO I run? or Do I accept and sell?

It depends on how much cash you want to spend to bring her up to par, so far I'm seeing at least 1500 to 2500 bucks if you do the work and that's not including suspension or a full timing belt service and that's about $1500+ more.

The axle he has and is going with the car....

I am told it has all the seals replaced and the timing belt was recently done, he has to find reciepts though.. Trans fluid was also changed and he replaced the drivers side air strut already

I may try and push for $1000.... The axle doesn't seem hard, he said it was the passanger side..

Arnott Air Struts are roughly $250 or so online...

I have to put $4000 into my explorer and thats something I can't handle..If I can get this thing for $1300 and put $1300 into it, selling my explorer for $1900, then im good..

Typically it would show up as a code in vagcom or vcds diagnostic's, how was this determined from the owner?

One thing I'll add as being a new member "Congrats!" you can search this forum for great resources and info, even check out the Features/ Tech Articles tab on the top of the page.

He was hooking his laptop up to the car... I think the torque converter is fine, buts its running rough with the bad 02 sensor

Thanks

My gut tells me $1200 tops and get it to an audi/vw shop and have them look it over.. If it fails, then, I am sure i can recoup my $1200 and move on.

Are these things a PITA to work on, or is it more cramped with a hearty helping of German Logic?

They are German 3D Jigsaw puzzles.

If you are friends with your neighbor, and value that friendship, this car may be the end of it.
