Replacing my Symphony Head Unit
I have to travel quite a bit and I end up renting a lot of cars. I always miss my everyday '02 S6 Avant, however, occasionally I get a car with Bluetooth (BT) and it comes in very handy. I also Have to use FM transmit for my XM radio.
Is there a head unit replacement or an aftermarket addition I can add to my original Symphony II head unit that would give me an aux input for the XM radio and BT for my phone?
I'd like to keep the functionality of my drivers information unit in the dash which obviously shows station and such.
I'd hate to think I need to buy a new car just to use my other toys in my Avant!

From what i read for you're needs the Pioneer DEH-P8400BH would be good for you. It has BT HD radio and XM radio ready. works awesome with Ipod or Iphone and if you use pandora you can listen to it as well via Iphone/Ipod. It has rear USB input along with front 3.5mm jack input. Pretty sweet HU for the price. I installed one in my fathers car and he loved it.

I have a 2002 A6 3.0 with the Symphony head unit (no Bose). I replaced with a Clarion CX501 head unit. I have the Clarion CX609 (earlier model) in my SUV and was very pleased with the sound, the Bluetooth, and Ipod connection in the rear. The only difference with the 609 and 501 is that the 501 has the ipod usb in the front whereas the 609 has it in the rear so you could put your ipod in the glove box. also, the 501 does a seamless connection with your phone for bluetooth where as the 609 requires you to change the source back to radio or ipod or satellite after the phone pairs with the head unit. You can also hook up your steering wheel controls and it works like a charm. All in all a very good quality head unit that has customizable colors to match the Audi red lighting scheme. The other thing you do lose is being able to see the radio station and song being played on the in dash computer but the screen on the head unit is big enough you can see that at a quick glance.
