Universal fit O2 sensor (Left rear)
It seems that the splice for the Bosch universal 4 wire post cat O2 sensor will end up about 1/2 way up to the plug.
Has anyone fit one of these?
Is there any issue with clearance to pull the splice through when the factory wire is run?
If it matters: 2000 2.8 Quattro

OK< crazy idea everyone will hate because I am being cheap.
My parts car (2002 3.0) has a different post cat O2 sensor, BUT they both use the same universal replacement.
SO I am going to pull the O2 sensor, cut off the end, and make my own "universal" replacement,
I just need to pick up 4 high temperature crimp on butt connectors, since I won't have the fancy Bosch screw together unit.
OK< who want to tell me it won't work???

They are pretty much all the same, with the difference of connectors and wiring lengths, if the generic part number is the same, the working bits are the same.

solder and shrink wrap the splice.

I used the Bosch universals for all 4 of mine and they worked like a charm.
I did not pull the "rear" harnesses out though (only the fronts), I left them on the car and spliced the new unit in on the car. I was going to pull the harnesses out but it turned out to be almost impossible to get the one that crosses over the tranny (6-speed) so I did not bother.
The kits are actually pretty cool as they come with a little waterproof block that keeps the connections in place. Have had no issues with them at all.
Cheers

New (used) O2 Sensor is on and seems to be working.
One warm up and run cycle with no codes and no pending codes.
Now, who in the Zuffenhausen decided that O2 sensor wiring should be anchored at so many points you have to just about drop the transmission to replace the sensor????
So, after spending a couple of hours trying to figure out how to get the wiring loose, I gave up and spiced the wires.
Since it is close to the exhaust and underneath for it will get a lot of road spray, I figured solder was the best approach. Well, I don't know what the wire is, but I could not get the solder to flow on it to it at all, so back to crimp splices, and heat shrink.
Made the splice about 10 inches from the sensor and was able to work the heat shrink covered splices (made each one offset a bit) up into the protective wire cover from the Sensor.

You mentioned "pending codes" how do you see these? I'be had a Ross Tech for years but not become particularly proficient. Please explain.
