I brought the car in to Audi dealership on Friday. They went through the suspension and did an alignment. There were no issues with the suspension and the alignment on the front end was only marginally out of spec.

Well, that's just weird then
I run lots of things that people shay "should" cause odd wear. I run non-standard sizes, have -1.8 deg camber all around, rtack the car occasionally, and have it lowered form the S6's -20 mm another 20mm.
And my wear is dead even. rapid, but even.
So i question how carefully the Audi dealer checked things.

Make up your mind!
If rubbing, you should see a polished area.

Same wear...
I have the H&R race spring setup on my A6 C5. After the install, with new shocks, and all the new goodies, I had the car aligned. New tire, and new wheels. An el cheapo alignment gave me that inner tire wear. The rest of the tire was fine, but that damn last belt line was worn to ****. Not inner tire wear, but an exact wear on just the inside of the last outer cleat. If something else is so worn out to do that you would surely feel it. Pay the extra $$$ and get a proper alignment. Make sure the subframe is properly aligned too. Cheers.
