Hello Wagonpitt,
I had the same issue. I ended up replacing my crank sensor and my ignition switch but I kept getting starting issues where i would have to let it sit 15 minutes or a hour or 2 to get it started. It ended up being the ECM Power Relay switch. The switch was about 30 bucks and the labor and total was something around $295.
Hope that helps

Hi darr thanks for the reply, whats almost too hard to believe is that coincidently right around the time you posted that i was at the shop picking up my car, ecm relay fixed it havnt had an issue yet. Exact same cost basically.
I suggest anyone who has similar issues to check the relay. I took my car to 2 shops and the audi dealer. Had crank sensor switched first then possible bad fuel pump then not fuel pump but something electrical so took it to dealer, dealer told me i need a new battery befor they could look at it wanted 600 for the battery installed !!! Had the battery checked somewhere else battery was perfectly fine, but it was the original so i switched it anyway myself paid 260 and put it in. That didnt do anything. I broke the bolt for the windshield wiper arm trying to get the nut off to pull the arm, back when someone on this thread suggested the relay and i gave up on it. I had a ecm relay fault in my scans but the mechanics said that wouldnt cause my problem. i gave up on the car put it in the garage basically ever since my last post. Finally on tuesday i took it to audi specialist here in town and got it back yesterday. They assured me that will be the end of this issue and so far so good.

May 6th Shamoye Lewis posted the answer to all my problems and if only i kept going after screwing up the wiper arm i would have fixed it for 49.99+tax relay. ðŸ˜*ðŸ˜*ðŸ˜*
