'11 S6 Advice Requested
#11
It sounds like you want a UrS6. Pre-OBDII (which means that every car from '96 on will benefit from and in some cases be required to use a computer for all sorts of things, including emissions inspections as well as maintenance) these cars do not need much to work on, are fast, reliable and a blast to drive. However, they are 20+ years old and finding quality parts for a limited run vehicle may not always be easy.
I have done almost everything on these cars, including an engine rebuild, and I have no formal training, but am mechanically inclined and use the resources now available extensively. The problem is that things like MP3 capability, NAV and other tidbits will all be add ons for cars of this vintage (I have an IPOD interface and use a Garmin for NAV compared to the AMI Ipod and built in NAV on the '08 S6).
Which do I like more? Tough decision. For brute power and rock solid fell on the road, the '08. For driving fun, the '95.5 since it had a standard trans and the '08 does not (only paddles). My only complaint on the UrS6 is the braking fade that can occur on repeated hard stopping.
Unfortunately anything sold in the US after '96 will be OBDII.
