I am trying to pair my phone with the MMI however went I turn on the car and set my phone to discovery there is never a sync option for the Audi. Anyone know what would cause this?

Are you sure you are syncing correctly? I'd recommend you start by disconnecting any and all BT connections and restarting the MMI, then doing the sync. Also, if you are on an old s/w version of the MMI, there have been known BT issues...do a search and you'll see. The latest MMI s/w is 46.1.0 FWIW. Here's a good vid on how to do the BT sync:
