2007 A6 Timing Chain Tensioner
I'm buying a 2007 Audi A6 3.2L Quattro sedan. It has 99,000 miles on it. My wife was talking to a coworker who scared her badly about the timing chain tensioner. All she remembers him saying is that it's an expensive problem to fix if it's not properly maintained. He said it's part of 'routine' maintenance and that it needs to be 'done' every 90,000 miles. I don't know any more details about what he meant. For example, I'm not sure what he meant when he said it needs to be 'done' every 90,000 miles.

The timing chain tensioner on the 3.2L FSI V6 does not need to be replaced every 90K miles - that is BS (AKA "fake news"). You will find that there are several people on this site that have not had the problem on their A6 with much higher mileage than the 2007 your are purchasing. The tensioner that usual fails is the upper tensioner on the driver's side. You can check the status of the camshaft alignment, which will allow you to know if you need to change the tensioner(s), using VAG-COM or another VAG scanner. Search this site for lots of info on this subject. And on the plus side - if necessary, you change the upper tensioners w/o removing the engine for the V6, which saves a lot of time & money.. BTW, my '06 A6 Avant with over 83K miles and has no issues with the timing chain tensioners.
