2008 A6 w/AMI, but no Aux as choice for source
Hi folks. Been reading here off and on for a long time.
Just picked up a new used 2008 A6 Avant. The car has AMI per the window sticker reprint (so 2G Basic, right?) and there is a cable in the glove box. But, when I choose CD/Aux, I only get CD on the screen.
I read about the "hidden" menu on the later MMI versions, but my understanding is that I won't have access on my unit.
Am I stuck having the dealer go in to fix this? Thanks!

Try a new cable first. When I bought my 08 A6 Q from a dealer, they gave me a brand new i*crap cable. Since I didn't have any i*crap device, it had been in the shelf for a long time. When I got a i*whatever and try the cable, it did not work. Got another i*crap cable from ebay, that cable worked. Go figure...

Aux was not shown as option with the bad cable. It is probably failed to detect the present of the bad cable.

My MMI is on version 4140, which probably means it was updated at some point. From what I read, the AMI has to be re-activated after an update. The guy I bought the car from said he never hooked up anything to the cable as long as he owned the car, so it was never an issue for him.
I did find out how to get into the hidden menu. (Setup+Return) I see the various components that are installed, but don't see one that would appear to be the AMI module. Does anyone know the component name for AMI as it would appear on the list?
Here's what I currently show:
