2009 A6 with uncommon TPMS problem
Hello everyone,
Please forgive me if I am making any errors in this post. I would greatly appreciate if anyone would help me find a solution to my problem.
Long story short, I replaced the headunit module with the one pulled out from 2007 model and now my indirect TPMS doesn't work from MMI menu.
See full explenation below,
I have 2009 audi a6 3.0T. It is one of the very last A6's with 2G MMI high and one of the very first with indirect TPMS (7k6).
Everything was working fine until I decided to retrofit back-up camera with 6C module. To do that I had to change the head unit (7) with the one that supports video. I must note that I bought used and working one
from 2007 A6 which had direct TPMS fitted. Then I had the component protection removed by the dealer and everything works fine except TPMS. I have this option in "Car" setting, but when I try to turn it on, it turns off after two seconds. It seems as if it was adapted for direct TPMS (7k3,7k4 or 7k5) as it has grayed out option to
show individual tire pressures. I believe the cars' TPMS works fine, because when I tempered with the abs module, I got ESP, ABS and TPMS lights on my dash. I was ready to pop my old head unit back in to copy all the adaptation values (currents' unit coding is the same and my channel 1 has TPMS on), but I fear it will be a wasted time and might trigger CP again. On top of this VCDS only allows for few channels to be changed in that module and it doesn't seem any of these are related except channel 01 which allows to turn on 7k3,7k4 and 7k5 system, but not 7k6.
VCDS in general doesnt support most of my modules.
please let me know if you know of any solution to this or maybe advise me at least which direction should I take. I want to keep the dealer out of this at least for now since their most common answer is to change the whole thing and charge 50% of the value of the car.

Your car has direct TPMS. Our cars use a low line system which has one antenna to recognize all 4 sensors. But the previous owner could have disabled the TPMS system, which can be reactivated with the VCDS and inserting the appropriate fuse. For the record you can install TPMS in all 5 tires (spare included), but the low line system only monitors 4 of them at any one time. Ok. So today I had sometime to check things out... I found the fuse box locations. Found out the TPM fuse box is located on the right passenger side by the dash. I took a look and turns out there is no fuse in there for telematics or Tire Pressure Monitor system. So I went ahead and tried to put a fuse in and realize it wouldn't fit.. it felt small and loose then shorty after I realize all the other fuse locations have a metal connection in them to hold the fuse and the telematics or Tire Pressure Monitor system didn't have any metal connections where the fuse is supposed to go in... hence the reason why the fuse wouldn't fit it. If all other fuses are connected to a metal connection and the telematics or Tire Pressure Monitor System doesn't have one does that mean that I don't have any of telematics or TPMS?
It really doesn't come as a surprise as to the lack of fuses...and that's assuming you are looking at the correct location, since as you've stated in the past, you've not spent much effort reading up about the basics of the vehicle. The 05 did have TPMS...not sure what's up with your vehicle, but as I've mentioned in the past, read the manual and get yourself Bentley or other technical access so you can really learn about the car.

As of right now these are my symptoms:
- MMI Tire Pressure option is grayed out
- There is no fuse nor a fuse holder with connections to hold a fuse in the Tire Pressure Monitoring spot of the passengers side dash fuse box location.
- Never seen the Tire warning light come on.
- VAGCOM states No Signal/No Comminitcation with Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
Not sure if this would be related but my car has an Audiovox FM modulator installed by the previous owner. It's connected to the radio tuner in the back left panel of the trunk.

As far as modifications go... the car is lowered about 1/2 an inch or so on springs and the exhaust mufflers have been cut out and replaced with different aftermarket mufflers.

In 2005 TPMS was a stand alone option. Are you sure the car has the option? It was not a common option in 2005.
I did have the TPMS in my old 2005. The batteries in the individual TPMS units had a life span of about 5 years. It is possible that the batteries have died. Personally, I am guessing the car doesn't have TPMS.
