80,000 mile oil change interval, ouch!
I came across this picture of an Audi driver that pushed the oil change interval to 80,000 miles. The picture is amazing.

chalk this one up to a 'what were they thinking'. Although I'm amazed by the incompetence of the individual, I'm not entirely surprised either. I actually knew someone who had a vehicle and saw that their oil low light was on, they went to the trunk of the car and pulled out a 1 qt oil container and poured it into the vehicle, as per design. I then subtly asked how long that the oil light had been on and they said it comes and goes every few months. My next question was aptly 'when did you last do a complete oil and filter change' at which point I was met by a dumbfounded look...at this point I realized the person had owned the car for over 16 months and never changed the oil or filter. BTW, they did the oil/filter change the next day and the consistency of the oil was that of maple syrup...yum
Well, at least they knew how to pour oil...and Kevin I'm shocked that the 3.2 even lasted as long as it did!

When I was younger, I used to have a clunker that would leak oil, trans fluid, brake fluid and had a hole in the radiator. My dad told me to just top everything off and not bother with the oil change since it is on its last legs, and when it would eventually fail, he'd help me buy a new car. I never changed the oil or anything else, just kept it level. And a waited and waited for it to fail so I could get a new car. It never did! 30k and two years later without an oil change and the old hag was still going. I had it junked for $300 because I didn't want it to fail on the next guy. I was feeling guilty for abusing it and sad at the same time. What an engine!
