Default A6/C6/quattro rear discs/rotors - must carrier be removed?

Hi,
New to this forum

I need to replace the rear rotors/discs on my 2009 2.7 TDI A6 Quattro.

However, this all of a sudden turned into a PITA job when I discovered that the lower caliper carrier bolt is almost inaccessable, and that Audi has a set of special tools (one for each side of car) to get to these.

But then I found this guide:
https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a6-...2/?ref=esp-img

And it clearly states that the disc ca be removed without removing the carrier....Other DYIs says the carrier must be removed...

What is correct?

I did my rear brakes 2 months ago. I removed the carrier on the drivers side with some difficulty as I did not have the correct wrench to remove. I could not remove the passenger side. I was about to purchase the correct wrench but saw that post. It worked on the passenger side so I would assume it would work on drivers side. My car is a 2007 3.2 quattro

Thanks for your reply. Very interesting. What size is your rear discs?

Looking at this video:

Which obviously is a quattro car, the guy removes the carriers. I dont understand why he would do that if it was not necessary.
I read somewhere else that the carrier must be removed if rear brakes are PR code 1KD or 2ED.
