Adding oil

Adding oil
I know this sounds stupid, but I am about to change the oil in my 2006 A6 3.2, and want to know if there is an easy way to pour oil into the engine. There is a plastic baffle thingy that restricts the amount of oil entering the engine, and it makes a mess. Can I add oil through the oil filter canister while the filter is out? Other ideas? There must be a simple way to do this.

+1 on this...what's the rush? Get yourself a funnel and pour nice and slowly. Imagine it's liquid gold being poured in...and at almost 10 quarts, yeah it can take a little while, but you can contemplate all the other things you can do re: maintenance on your Audi

Yes, it is a pain to fill thru that restriction. In fact, my wife's '14 Q5 2.0T engine is more restricted than the A6 3.2L. So, I recently purchased a Assenmacher AST VAG (#OFAUD1000) oil funnel designed especially to fit both the 3.2L and 2.0T engines. You can find these on eBay.

Used the Assenmacher AST VAG (#OFAUD1000) oil funnel today for the first time when doing the oil/filter change, and it is worth the price. Like the oil filler cap, the funnel rotates, locks in place, and is sealed. Then all you do is pour a quart of oil in it, and it drains into the valve cover w/o spilling a drop. By the time you open another quart, the funnel is empty and ready. No more spillage!

Gary - have used the Assenmacher and the PK 710. The PK 710 drains faster and costs 60% less. If the oil is cold (winter/unheated garage), you really have to wait on the Assenmacher to drain. Yes, the Assenmacher is built like a brick sh-t house (its german of course) but for $20 bucks, the home mechanic would also be well served by the PK710. Bottom line though, anyone that changes oil on modern Audi engines should have one of these.
