Default Advice on upgrading a6 cvt to a6 4.2

Hello,
I currently own a 2008 A6 CVT (FWD)

I feel like I am missing out on the AWD experience and control. I am considering upgrading to a A6 4.2. I was wondering if there are any things I should look out for when buying. I did some research online and found tranny issues ~80k. Also some form of engine change between 05-06 and the 07-09 models.

Wondering if anyone can help out, thanks in advance!

The primary difference between the 05-06 and 07-09 V8 4.2 models is that the latter are FSI (Direct injected). There's a little more hp in them, however they run the blight of all DI (direct injected) engines, which is carbon build-up. The earlier models (05-06), don't have issues with carbon build-up, but have been recorded failure of timing chain guides breaking, which requires an engine removal to remedy.

The difference between the 3.2 and the 4.2 is pretty vast, and the 'sure-footedness' of the AWD vs. FWD is even more pronounced, especially in inclement weather.

Leverage the SEARCH function in the forum and you'll see plenty of threads on all that you've asked about. Good luck

Thank you for the quick reply raj.
I have a follow up question if you don't mind. The car is listed as a 2006 Audi A6 4.2. However the AutoCheck report states it is a "Engine: 4.2L V8 SFI"

The engines are definitely different from the 06 to the 07 models. Take a look here: Used 2007 Audi A6 for Sale|Edmunds.com
