Default Battery Regulator issues

Symptoms:
- Battery meter in MMI always on lowest level
- Errors in VAG logs (below)
- Sometimes at start-up the low battery yellow light comes up
- Sometimes the car doesn't start at first go (very intermittent). Not sure if that is related.

Diagnosis:
- When idle, the battery reads 14.2V (in engine as well as in the trunk)
- When car off, the battery reads 12.1 (in engine as well as in the trunk)
- Took battery to O Reilly, and they confirmed battery is fine. Cleaned the terminals too
- Took the battery out, checked the door behind the battery. The red thin wire is intact and is connected to the screw on the chassis.

How old is your battery? I just replaced the original OEM battery (late-2005 build date) in my 2006 A6 Avant, even though the MMI showed it 100% charged. However, the battery level should read 12.7 volts with the engine off; my old battery measured 12.2 volts, and I starting getting a DTC. At 12.1 volts, your voltage is too low to support the battery energy management (BEM) system, and could lead to illuminating the CEL. If your battery is 5-6 years old, I suggest replacing it, with an OEM AGM battery. Don't forget to code the new battery.

Appreciate your help A6Gary.

Battery is fairly new and was replaced about 12 months ago. I even got it tested at O Reilly and they gave their thumbs up.

The battery was never coded after it was replaced. I got the BEM code, but it appears the lower letters (second set) are not fully readable. I did my best to guess the numbers (it said no letters), and got a coding accepted.

Immediately, the low battery warning went away and the battery meter read at 95% - Yaaaay.... but not really.

Went back to the car later in the evening, and the battery still reads 5%. Did I just get the numbers wrong?? I even checked the receipt from the Audi dealer for the BEM numbers, but there is nothing on the receipt. It only has the 915105DK number on it.

I had similar issues with my D3 A8. Replaced the battery and same issues remained. I unhooked the battery, put a charger on it, and left it that way overnight. Hooked it up the next day and everything was fine.
