Differential Failure
I have a 2007 A6 quattro 3.2l 6 sp auto US market vehicle and my indy mechanic just informed me that the differential just blew! If i get a used one how do i know if the ratio is the same as the one in there since it is quattro and it would not be good if it was different?
I can not see myself paying about $3,000 plus labor for a new one from Audi, but do not want to spend money on labor for the install and have the wrong one.
I have had other Audis, quattros and they had no drive train problems even after 200K miles and this one only has 114K.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Check where the spare tire is at, there should be a label with codes. Something like this.
Look for a code like one of the following: HCC, HNL, HUP - this for the rear differential.
But like 4Driver4 said which differential?

my car is at the indy shop right now, but when i called the Audi dealer, and after giving them my VIN they said i have the HCC code for my rear diff, however the Sticker in the trunk and the diff says HUP, so they did not have accurate info. Hope this helps.
Also how many miles are on the diff you have?

There Interchangeable, there both 3.10 ratio
HUP should be the updated version from 2007-08
HCC should be from 2005-08
Here's HUP on ebay:
