Default Finally got the MMI updated in the 2005.

Version 1070 to 4610. About 2.5 hours of downloading. I've been planning to do this for two years, but the disc player in the car refused to read the upgrade discs, even though it happily played CDs. I bought used changer on Ebay, and finally got around to installing it so I could run the upgrade.

Everything went smooth. This is not a difficult job. I would encourage anyone on the fence to take the plunge.

I also took the opportunity to code out the "fasten belts" chime. I'm fine with a quick warning when I first start the car, but ding, ding, ding every thirty seconds is mind numbing.

Can you do the update when the component protection kicks in? I was thinking about getting an used one from Ebay too, do the update and than sell it again without going to the dealer. I won't be needing the cd changer anymore, I'm thinking about going the Denison or Grom audio solution.

No component protection issues...during the up.

However, after reading your post, I went out to the garage and popped in a CD. Guess what? Component protection blocks it from playing more than 2 seconds at a time. Guess I'll be swapping the old unit and selling this one.

Any interest?

Nice to know that the update can be done with any unit. Is it 4E0 035 110?

I think so...with an L suffix. I'll pull it out tomorrow and get a better look.

I did the update a little while back, but from a FAR newer version to 4610. All I needed was the 2nd CD vs. both and it took about 20 mins or so to update. The only real difference in my case, were a few more options in the hidden menu and some of the existing options disappeared (i.e. battery level), which I added back via VCDS later on.

OK, so both changers are now component protected. Neither plays. Is there a hack yet? If not, I'll be looking for something else too.

Who uses CDs anymore?

I thought I read it here or maybe in another forum, that CP resets itself with the original unit, after a while. I can't remember it exactly. That's disappointing.

The original unit is back in the car. I'll check it in a few days and see what's what. Thanks.

If it's protected, it really is no big loss. The only thing it has been used for in the past two years is this weekend's MMI update.

Original CD changer is working happily.

Bluetooth is vastly better with update.
