I watched this video the week after i bought my a6 and thought it was odd audi intakes would build up with a lot of carbon. Has anyone else encountered this much build up or negative effects from not cleaning it?

So I did a big write-up on this subject a while back. Carbon issues are primarily associated with the FSI (Direct Inject) engines Audi produced (3.2 and the 07+ 4.2 engines):

my saab had DIC (Direct Ignition Cassettes) and has 240K and there is no carbon build up with that. What makes these DI's different to build up Carbon? I dont mind cleaning my intake every 100k or so, but every 30k to keep performance up is something I have never heard of. Not trying to argue the fact that Carbon builds up, just find it interesting Audi would continue to produce a motor with such a flaw
