Default Keyless Entry problem

I have a 2006 Audi A6 2.0TDi. Last week both of my remote keys stopped working. When I press the buttons the light flashes on the fob. I have not changed the batteries in the fobs or the car battery.
The car locks normally and the alarm works when manually locked with the key.
Also when the engine is switched off and the key removed, I have to switch off the auto-lights and the radio/cd player manually, otherwise they remain on.
I don't know if this is associated or not, but I had the ignition-lock warning light come on for two days, it has since reset itself, I guess.
Has anyone had similar problems or can suggest a solution??

I'm a complete newbie to forums and Audi's, so please forgive my naiveness...

1st thing I would do is change the batteries.

Default Batteries changed

Okay, I've changed the batteries in both remotes key fobs. They still don't work.

What now??

I've tried to reprogram the keys, using the advice from this link

https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho...hp?p=14888195;

But it hasn't made any difference. Not sure if there is a different way for the C6 platform A6?? Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated??

Default Ignition Warning Light

My Ignition warning light has come back on, its obviously an intermittent electrical problem, but what???

I think my keys are programmed, because when I press unlock, the welcome lights come on, its just the doors don't unlock.

Isn't there a switch/relay that disables the keys when the engine is running, was thinking that this could be faulty??

I love my car, but these electrical problems are a real pain...

This happened to me once and what i found was that my gear shifter wasn't all the way into park. Try pushing it up tight into the park position. worth a shot

Hi,

I am having the exact same issue.
The car went to the shop. I pick it up and the ignition lock warning is blinking. The FOB does not work. I replaced the battery and the mechanic reset the error. The warning came back. When I press unlock, the welcome lights come on, its just the doors don't unlock.

My mechanic cant figure it out and said he tried everything. Should I be looking at replacing the ignition lock? I am about to drive 2,000 miles and very worried.

Default Have learned to live with it

I brought mine into a n Audi specialist, he told me it was a very common problem and is caused my a microswitch in the ignition barrel itself, losing its ability to spring back when you remove your key from the barrel and reset. The car thinks you still have the key in the lock, so disables the lock feature on the key fob. And in my case keeps the auto lights and radio on.

He quoted me £500 for a new ignition lock and 4 hours labour to dismantle dash board to access it.

I have tried to use an electrical switch cleaner aerosol, but that seems to make it stick even more. I've discovered that by giving my key a little flick of the wrist as I turn off the engine, it resets itself. It took me awhile to get a good technique, but it is now second nature to me and it never fails. It has been more than 6 years and I guess I have learned to live with the problem.
