Lucas Stop Oil Leak
Before any of you say anything, i know: it's better to just fix the leak. But has anyone tried Lucas stop oil leak with their motor oil. I have a small leak coming from the back of the engine on my 3.0t. Nothing big, probably a small drop every day or two. Probably cam chain gasket. Lucas says it softens the gasket to where it eliminates the leak, but obviously not all leaks.
Back of the engine means its PITA to get to, aka lots of labor $$. I am inclined to put in a bottle of this stuff.
This brings me to another thought: The car only has 60k. When i bought the car i noticed a bigger leak on the left side of engine. Had the dealer replace left rear cam chain gasket, and rebuild the gasket on the vacuum pump. This is not normal for an audi at 60k, is it? What could be some causes of premature gasket leakage?
Thoughts or experiences anyone?

I would just offer that whatever you stick in your oil, you have to accept that stuff circulating all thru the innerds of your engine.
I have used MMO (not on the audi), on some old beaters that had for example seepage at the PS rack boots. the aromatics swell the orings.
mixed with ATF in a relatively low stress environment that didn't hurt my head too much.
i used about 5% by vol of system capacity.
personally, the only thing i would stick in my C6's motor oil would be BG quik clean (no need though), into an already warm engine, run the engine under very low load, never exceeding 4000 rpm, and drain it out HOT. remember, any varnish that the aromatics soften will readhere to the metal when the oil cools.

I see your point.
I was also looking at using "high mileage" oil as a substitute. Apparently it's the Lucas stuff on a much smaller scale...
Thoughts?

Can you tell me more about your repair. $$ ? How many hours labor? How do you get to it? How much stuff do you need to remove to get to it?. Stuff like that?
Thanks!!

the black stamped steel covers that attach to the aluminum head are quite accessible on the v6.
concur that those are RTV sealed.
but are you sure that is the source?
my crappy plastic oil filter housing at the block interface is what seeps on the 3.0Roots

See the picture. I can't be sure its the RTV seal because i cant get a look back there, but my drivers side was leaking when i bought the car and had the dealer fix it for me no charge. Said that's what it was, along with the vacuum pump seal on the front of the engine. That was all on the drivers side. This leak is trickling down on the right side of the engine, as seen on the picture. Can't be sure where it originates.
How can i check if it's the oil filter housing. Seems like a believable scenario though.
