My car says low oil usually around 3500 or 3800 miles after oil change i keep a 5qt 5W40 Castrol GTX in the trunk for that. I thought something was wrong with the car but after reading this i feel much better knowing this is normal I hope you get your problem sorted out 2k burning is a bit excessive.

I know it doesn't say edge on it but it does say titanium they did not have a 5w40 in stock so I ended up getting that and added a 1qt in the engine. The engine oil is changed with castrol gtx synthetic edge 5w40 I have 2007 Audi A6 3.2L Engine is there any better oil you recommend besides the one I use. Would it affect changing brands on the engine oil.
Is this the wrong kind?

the dino goes by GTX (white plastic bottle in US). i think they also market a blend in a green bottle, but why confuse things.
The black bottle you picture is synth, however the particular grade (5w30) you selected does not meet VW502.
will your engine blow up only due to a 502 vs. non502 oil? I doubt it.
Oil is a highly personal thing, so I try to not advocate a particular brand.
If you want to make your head hurt, go on over to the BITOG euro formula forums and read. But be prepared to either stay up all night or worry incessantly about did you consider every possible detail in selecting your oil.

Well.. after 5K miles of owning my car and not having paid much attention to where the oil level was when I bought it, she asked me for a quart last night. Came through a hard highway left turn and she made me aware. Oil was just barely on the bottom of the operating range when parked level. One quart brought it up to happy level until I do the oil change in the next few days.

your use of "GTX" is confusing me. Castrol basically has two products: synthetic and dino. synthetic goes by "EDGE" or edge pro or formerly known as syntec.

Saif, you should be concerned whether the oil you use conforms to VW502 or 505 requirements, vs. whether it's 0w40 or 5w40. I run Mobil 1 0w40.

I personally believe in the thinnest possible oil that meets requirements.
my present fill is M1 0w40 FWIW.
