Default oil consumption 3.0T

First 20k+ miles were fine, then had the 25k service done. Got low oil warning light 2k miles later, added quart and brought back to full...another 2k miles later same thing. Dealer ran oil consumption test and came back "within spec .2 per 1000 miles". 2k miles after the oil consumption test (after dealer drained & refilled the oil), got low oil warning 3rd time and had to add another quart. Taking it back in tomorrow for further evaluation. A friend with a Q7 3.0T had to have piston rings replaced after similar issue and figures that's what I'm headed for.

Anyone else with C6 3.0T's had similar issues?

I have the 3.2 and this issue is somewhat normal on these cars. 1/2 to a full quart between oil changes sounds about right based on experience and most people on here consensus. I am not sure if this issue could be completely eliminated.

2010 3.0T Avant here with just under 28,000 miles on it. I've had my share of problems with this car... disappointing... but oil consumption has not been one. The car was special ordered, broken in per the owners manual and driven in a spirted manner (50/50 mix of freeway and street driving). So far... knock on wood... no oil consumption at all.

i think thats a little too much, obviously the dealer will have to deal with it.

i have a 05 4.2 with just over 100K on the clock. none and sometimes half a quart in between the oil changes, does the trick.

but it sure had other problems. lol

32k miles, no problems and no oil consumption at all. I change my oil & filter every 3k miles. Thats once a year for me.

Dealer called Audi tech support who instructed them to run the oil consumption test again...they drained and refilled the oil and then it's back into the shop after 630 miles for them to measure the consumption. Tune in for update in 2 weeks...

According to the manual for 3.2 engine it is normal to add up to 1qt/1000 miles. You can look though your 3.0T manual, but I would bet that it states the same.

Well I grabbed the manual and started reading and [much to my surprise] found the following: "Depending on the way the vehicle is driven and operating conditions, oil consumption can be up to 1 quart per 1,200 miles". After some more research, I found some TSB's that define the Audi oil consumption standard as "up to 0.5 quarts per 600 miles", consistent with what's in the manual.

Regardless, my dealer's service manager advised me that consuming a quart every 2k miles (as I have been) is "not normal" - will just have to wait and see what they decide to do after this second oil consumption test. BTW, I drive 15k miles a year, with probably 70% highway which I wouldn't think would lead to high oil consumption.

Never had any consumption issues until about 29k...5k after my last change. Completely reasonable especially for how hard I drove it.

However, 2k seems a bit excessive. Definitely something up IMO.
