Default plate filler question

i've been searching but can't seem to find an answer.......i would love to remove the front license plate and corresponding filler plate and replace with the clean looking filler plate w/ chrome strip (although required in CT, i've never had an issue not having one in 18 years of car ownership). do i just pry the filler strip off or does it have any screws holding it in place? looking at the filler strip on ECS it looks like there are two clips with screw holes. also, is there any unfinished section of grille beneath the portion where the license plate backing dips below the main strip (i.e. - i assume the vertical chrome strips are continuous from top to bottom of the grille)?

I think you have to remove the grill to do it.

Grill does not need to be removed. There are two screws (Phillips or Torx depending on your year) on the lower margin of the filler plate panel itself. The heads of these screws are pointing nearly straight down at the ground. Remove those and the whole plate should slide up a bit and then out. Reverse the process to install a new one.

ok thanks, sounds like it's fairly simple to switch out, ECS wanted to sell me some trim removal kit to do it for some reason, not sure how that would help unless the screws are difficult to access

As LLskier23 states, the two scews are easily accessible (I just checked my '06 A6 Avant).

Ah, I didn't know that.
Now if only plate fillers weren't so expensive...

Right?!.....you'd think there'd be some $15 chinese knockoffs on amazon or ebay, but suprisingly couldn't find any

Check forums classifieds to see if anyone wants to swap. I found someone in Colorado who wanted the license plate one and I wanted the plate delete one so we worked out a trade.

Reviving an old thread here rather than starting a new one. I'm a bit shocked at the price of these filler pieces. Tried ebay, $150 after shipping to Canada. Tried dealer, $406 CDN. LOL. I had to make sure she wasn't pricing me the entire bumper or grill. Going to try to find one at a wrecker I guess, or go with an entire grill replacement.
