Hello, I recently purchased a 2007 Audi A6 with nav and MMI high but no AMI. I have been researching for WEEKS on how to play music through this amazing sound system from my iPhone but every thread is old and/or confusing. It seems that my best option would be to retrofit an AMI unit (if I can find one) in place of the CD changer, but I cannot find ANYWHERE whether or not an iphone 5s (and newer) is compatible with the interface. The Dension unit seems appealing but too expensive for my purposes.

There are a number of threads on this topic... Why don't you simply add an Ami or dension unit and then connect a tune2air dongle and you'll have wireless music that will work work any mobile phone?

I'm no expert and I have an iphone 4 but I think with the right cable it would work...

As mentioned by Raj99 you need an AMI or Denision. Before 2008 Audi did not have an interface deployed for iPhone/Android integration. The AMI interface was introduced for the A6 in 2008 and fortunately it is backwards compatible with the MMI systems from 2005-2007 but you may need a software update to the MMI (search the forum archives). Both interfaces work in addition with the CD player so you do not need to remove anything, just add the new device to the MOST fiber optic loop. I have had both systems, they each have advantages and disadvantages.

I can tell you that the AMI will work with the iPhone 4-6s as I have tried them all. I had the Denison working with the 4s and 5 but I assume it will also work with the later versions.

Thanks for the clarification. Does anybody know where to buy a decently priced AMI MOST unit? I have looked at a kit from ebay for around $500 dollars after shipping but i cannot find any other listings at all. Please tell me if i am missing something here.

Update: Found a perfect looking unit with usb and apple 30 pin connectors for $350 free shipping. Only one available so I acted quickly.

Where did you find it? I have been looking for an AMI but either the Ebay dealers seem shady or I just miss one like this one.

I found it on eBay from a reliable seller. He only had one in stock so he must have pulled it from a wrecked car because he had several other Audi parts. It sucks how rare/ridiculously overpriced the MOST units can be. eBay is your best bet to find a reasonable one, you just have to wait for one to appear.

Or you could go with dension 500 or xcarlink units, which will do more than the Ami for about the same price point.
