Purchasing a 2005/2006 Audi A6, preferably the 4.2 V8
Hey guys, I am a previous B7 Audi A4 owner, and I am thinking about purchasing a c6 Audi A6 4.2 V8. Are there any COMMON problems that might be worrisome at this age? Especially between 120,000-160,000 miles. I've heard about timing chain issues and some torque converter problems, but are these really big problems that affect many of those vehicles?

Take a look at my thread here

I've done a lot of preventive maintenance, but it's not a 'cheap car' to maintain well

I saw your pics and I must truly say that is one beautiful looking C6!! It seems all the ideas that I was planning to do on my future C6. I really appreciate you responding to my posts as I am a new member here on this forum, I feel very welcomed! How many miles are on your 4.2?

FWIW, from reading several audi forums, it seems as though both the timing chain and TQ issues are somewhat mitigated in years 2007 and beyond. 2005 and 2006 models are ticking time bombs, the 3.2 seems more likely to experience timing chain issues and adds the timing cover oil leak syndrome

do good inspection but you still going to spend money to get it in shape no matter how clean and well taken care of before,,, on my second c6 now one was totaled @102k and the second one is a bit over 90k now and they both get the same exact issues once over 80k .....it cost me money because I always want to have in a near new condition apart from engine carbon build up, timing chains and all this put in consideration suspension work is expensive and a must do once over 80k unless you don't mind driving it with busted control arm bushings and worn springs. if you want to feel the real planted to the road feel will cost you about 4k in suspension work ,they drop in value for a reason
do your home work and good luck

2007 nearing 130k here and it's a Tank! I agree with previous posters, preventive maintenance and wear and tear items at higher mileage can get expensive. (I am driving around with $1k worth of suspension parts in my trunk waiting for a friend to help me install them so I can save another $1k in labor) Do not freak out! It's not that crazy, although I would recommend a 2007 or later, because of timing chains and other issues 05/06 had.
