Quick advice please - Coolant Warning
2011 A6 Quattro
A few days ago, low coolant warning came on and thermostat went to Hot. Shut car down, took to Firestone and they put their coolant (good for Audi's) in.
Then ran engine and got same story. No visible leak
Been reading here and learning of faulty thermostat. Thermostat could be stuck in the "closed" and "open" position.
I'm not a car guy. My Audi is at dealership now.
Just want some advice for when they call me back wanting to do $XXXX worth of work.
If I have faulty thermostat, what am I looking at here please? ($$$)
Tks,
TJ

Thermostat replacement on the 3.0T isn't that difficult and shouldn't be a very costly service. However, the fact that the car shutdown due to low coolant is of concern, since that could have done some real damage. Furthermore, Firestone doesn't usually have Audi approved coolant and they may have put in their normal stuff...which may require the dealer to flush and refill the system.

Are you having AC issues like hot air coming out of the outer side vents? The last time I had the low coolant warning with no visible leaks, it was the AC Heater Control Valve Unit leaking: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a6-...crazy-2893162/
