Default Removing Sunroof Glass Panel to do sunroof shade springs TSB

Hi guys - Anyone know how to remove the sunroof glass panel properly???? (so that I dont screw up the alignment, create leaks, etc?)

Our 2005 A6 has the sunroof springs problem. If you arent' familiar, this happens on the earlier models, basically the long springs that keep the sunroof shade in proper position come loose b/c the plastic hooks they attach to snap off. Then they rattle around the headliner, and sometimes fall on your head. (!)

I found a TSB here or somewhere, called "2010952/3, released Dec 3, 2008). It basically says you get this repair kit, a 40 dollar part # 4F0 898 255, that includes 4 hooks, 4 springs and 4 replacement t15 screws.

It looks very easy in the TSB. BUT the one thing that you have to do in order to access the springs is #1 - Remove glass roof panel (refer to group 60, sunroof in repair manual). And that's what I cant readily figure out as I dont have the bentley.

THANKS !

Default Thanks but I just need instructions for the glass panel

Apparently once I take off that glass panel, i just close the shade, then install the 4 new screw mounts / springs on via torx screw. I think I've figured it out, but by removing the sunroof (glass piece, not all the trim or mounts), it will definitely screw up alignment of it. oh well !

There's a section for alignment in Bentley also. I will post later tonight.

I have the Bentley manual, and it says that trim must be removed before you can remove the glass panel. Even with the drawings it's not real clear what exactly needs to happen. Probably would be clearer if I were looking at the sunrrof at the same time.

Hopefully this helps:

Perform height adjustment at front and rear according to illustration to prevent wind noise.
Check height adjustment at each point, left and right, where rounded portion of roof opening merges with straight portion.
Sunroof panel should not be higher than roof at any point at front or lower than roof at any point at rear.
When adjusting sunroof panel height, start by running sunroof from open position (not tilted open) into closed position.
Adjusting
Loosen screws - 1 - to - 3 - several turns.
Adjust panel.

If this part is $40 you can order direct from dealer, no need online.

The removal of the glass panel is pretty easy.

All you need is a T25 torx bit.

First open the shade all the way.
Tilt open the sunroof
Remove the left and right interior trims (the ones that look like accordians) by pulling them off from the rear end.
There are 4 torx screws holding the sunroof. Untighten these screws and the sunroof glass can be removed from the top.

When re-attaching the sunroof, just drop the sunroof glass from the roof.
Tighten the 4 torx screws but in a manner whereby the from end is about 1mm lower than the surface of the vehicle and the rear end is about 1mm higher than the surface of the vehicle.

Initially screw in the 4 torx screws with minimal torque and then adjust the glass height and then tighten the screws.

The interior trim can easily be attached by pushing them in.
