Default Is this a Ross Tech clone?

To anyone who has purchased this, does it have the same capabilities as the Ross Tech VAG-COM?

I wouldn't risk it. It seems to suggest using VCDS, and VCDS isn't authorized for any other cable than their's. If you own an Audi, you should just go with the Ross Tech cable. It's an investment that will pay for itself many times over. I suppose you could sell it if you don't like it.

Buy a used Ross-Tech cable for around $250 and up (for those desperate to sell it) for the HEX-USB-CAN version that is compatible with lots of VAG vehicles. Then, if you want to get rid of it, you can sell it for slightly cheaper or the same or even slightly more. Brand new price is around USD $350 and it holds its used value quite well. There are lots of folks selling used Ross-Tech cables in various Audi and VW forums.

That is definitely a copy and it will probably only run a limited version of the software which will not talk to most of the systems on your car. If by chance it is fully functional then it is a pirated Chinese copy and it is not supporting the great team at Ross-Tech who keep the software up to date and provide excellent (free) support.

With these knock off cables, as soon as Ross-Tech updates their firmware, they become not even good for a trunk tie down.

amen to that!

Pay the $$ and get the right equipment for the job or be prepared to throw the clone VCDS in your box of cables...yep everyone has one of the THOSE box's which house all the weird, one-off, crappy cables that we keep for the "just in case"...but we never use them. I threw out 2 boxes of those a few months back and still have a box left

I have a world class collection of four boxes of those old, useless cables so I have you beat. Some of them even go back to 1994 after I bought my first computer.

Thanks all for your opinions and comments. I've owned this car since 2009, and with the exception of my persistent P2404 fault, I have not had occasion to need the Ross Tech tool so I'm reluctant to buy one for this singular purpose. My mechanic is not a VW Audi guy and does not have one either.

A pro Audi mechanic without a VCDS? That's surprising.
